Why the obsession?

Yea it’s a reasonable question. One could argue that pies, sausage rolls, custard squares and particularly CHICKEN SKEWERS! are not food fit for top performing athletes such as ourselves.

“A golf ball of fat” we always hear.
But what about the “baseball of joy” that everyone conveniently forgets.

I’ll let you in on a wee back story.

So Frances & I, alongside our brothers Richard & Andrew, were brought up on a dairy farm in the Waikato. This has meant that we have other dairy farming friends in our community that we regularly socialise with. Our Father, Frank, came up with the in-genius idea to catch up every Friday during the calving season (flat tack time of the year with very little time for much else) to have a pie, a coffee, and to switch out of the work mentality, if even for a moment. It was aptly named “Pie Friday”. We’ve been religiously attending our Pie Friday’s for about a decade, and is now considered to be the holy communion of our wee dairy farming community.

Ok, so maybe that’s a slight over reach, or maybe I should just speak for myself.
But in seriousness, something as simple as Pie Friday has been a great thing for us to ensure that amidst the grind, amidst the hours you put into your mahi, your livelihood, whether that’s bovine orientated or not, one must find time for life’s great pleasures.

And for us, that pleasure is pastry.

So whatever you find pleasure in, be sure to find a little time for it as you enter your busy times of the year, and let this collection be a reminder to you to not take life too seriously, and to sit back and smell the gravy when you can.
